Our Story –
The Short Version:
Chapter 1: In the beginning…
Act 1 –
Boy meets girl. Girl likes boy. Boy and girl get married. Girl has
Brother. Boy has Brothers. Life is good.
Act 2 –
Boy and girl move to Vilas. Girl’s brother moves to Vilas. Boy’s
brother changes girlfriend.
One day, boy, brother and brother eat sandwich at Atlas Deli. RIP.
Boy, brother, and brother walk down Monroe St. Notice space for
rent. Boy, brother, and brother are thirsty. Talk about wine. Take
out napkin. Boy, brother, and brother draw Wall of 100. Decide, hey,
good idea. Life is good.
Act 3 –
(In actual order of events as they occurred) Boy, brother,
and brother sign lease. Draw up plans. Decide, hey maybe this could
be a wine store with the wall of 100. Hey, maybe we could serve
glasses of wine and sell the stuff. Begin construction. Boys brother
changes girlfriends.
Boy, brother, and brother sit around marble table, drink 1, 2, 5,
6…bottles of wine and brainstorm name. Finalist: Finns Hooch Cabin
or Barriques Wine something. Boys brother and brother ask what a
Barrique is. Boy explains. Boy, brother and brother like Barriques
Wine something. Boy, brother and brother spend many hours in
basement cleaning it up. Feels like we are in a cave. Ah ha!
Barriques Wine Cave is born. Brother starts budget and financial
projections. Barriques Wine Cave opens next day. Life is good.
Act 4 –
The early years. Boy, brother and brother get lesson in retail.
Realize profit margins on wine are bad. Must sell more. Must fire
most of staff. Boy’s brother changes girlfriend. Sleeps on bar.
Tired from other job. Decides retail not for him. Boy’s brother
moves on. Barriques moves on.
