The 2012 La Valentina Montepulicano d’Abruzzo is made from 100% Montepulciano grapes. It is fermented in stainless and then aged for 15 months in a mix of stainless, concrete and oak barrels. La Valentina’s aim is to bring out the classic characteristics of Montepulciano with dark ruby overtones. The nose is full of deep aromas of red currant, raspberry, plum, pepper corn, underbrush and a delicate floral note. The wines is nicely balanced to the palate with rich, persistent fruit flavors of raspberry, blueberry, and plum with some hints of licorice and spice. A good show in the glass all by itself but will pair up nicely with lasagna, meatloaf and other hearty winter dishes.
